Brad's Joy of Sharing

Four years. It’s hard to believe that December 3rd marks four years without Brad in our lives. Four years of reminders… every time the girls (Mabel and Gracie) do something goofy or adorable, every time something happens that we instinctively want to share with him, every time Joy of Sharing comes around—his absolute favourite time of year.

Once again, we honour Brad Houser for his warmth, generosity, big heart, and love of Christmas. For years, Brad quietly shopped for and purchased a special gift for each Starlight child participating in Joy of Sharing in British Columbia. He never sought recognition—he simply cared deeply about helping our most vulnerable families with seriously ill children at a time when they needed it most.

While the holidays can be a season of joy and celebration, many Starlight families face increased stress, anxiety, and ongoing medical challenges. When we asked families how we could best support them this year, they shared that what they need most is some level of financial relief during this difficult season. More than toys alone, families told us they urgently need essentials—clothing, toiletries—as well as gift cards for food, pharmacies, and gas. In response, this year we will be providing Walmart gift cards to all 57 Starlight families who have registered for Joy of Sharing.

In Brad’s honour, the Joy of Sharing elves who worked with him each year are looking forward to keeping this tradition alive. If you would like to help, here’s what you can do:

• Sponsor a Starlight family: For $250, you can sponsor a Starlight family by providing them with gift cards to purchase everything they need to make the holidays special!
  
  
• Make a donation to the Joy of Sharing: You decide how much you would like to give! These funds are used for those special touches and/or a little extra for each family.

• Help spread Brad's story to friends, family or your workplace by sharing this page.
