Brad's Joy of Sharing

It's the time of year that we honour Brad Houser for his warmth, generosity, big heart and a love for Christmas! Over the years, Brad has shopped and bought a special item for each Starlight child as part of Joy of Sharing in British Columbia. He was humble and didn't really talk about it much, but he felt very strongly about helping our seriously ill children and their families at a time when they need it most.

The holidays can be a time of joy and celebration with loved ones, but for many of our Starlight families, it can be a time of stress, anxiety, and ongoing medical challenges. We asked our Starlight families how we could best provide support and they let us know that there is a strong need for some level of financial assistance during the holiday season. More than needing just toys, families told us that they are in need of the basic of necessities (such as clothes and toiletries) and gift cards for food, pharmacies, and gas. This year, over 75 Starlight families have expressed a need for this type of support.

In Brad’s honour, the Joy of Sharing elves who worked with him each year are looking forward to keeping this tradition alive. If you would like to help, here’s what you can do:

Our elves shop for a child/teen: Every Starlight child/teen has a special gift on their wish list. Brad bought these gifts in the past, but this year, with your $50 donation, our elves will shop to meet the wishes of these incredible kids.
Sponsor a Starlight family: For $250, you can sponsor a Starlight family by providing them with necessities, gift cards, and gifts for the kids. Our elves will ensure they get everything they need!
Make a donation to the Joy of Sharing: You decide how much you would like to give! These funds are used for those special touches and/or a little extra for each family.

* Please note that charitable tax receipts will be provided for all donations of $10 or more.
