It is hard to believe that December 3rd marks three years without Brad in our lives. Three years of reminders...every time the girls (Mabel and Gracie) do something goofy or cute, every time something happens that we want to share with him, every time the Joy of Sharing rolls around....it was his favourite time of year!
Again this year, we honour Brad Houser for his warmth, generosity, big heart and a love for Christmas! Over the years, Brad shopped and bought a special item for each Starlight child as part of Joy of Sharing in British Columbia. He was humble and didn't really talk about it much, but he felt very strongly about helping our seriously ill children and their families at a time when they need it most.
The holidays can be a time of joy and celebration with loved ones, but for many of our Starlight families, it can be a time of stress, anxiety, and ongoing medical challenges. We asked our Starlight families how we could best provide support and they let us know that there is a strong need for some level of financial assistance during the holiday season. More than needing just toys, families told us that they are in need of the basic of necessities (such as clothes and toiletries) and gift cards for food, pharmacies, and gas. As a result, this year we will be providing Walmart gift cards for all 68 Starlight families who have signed up for the Joy of Sharing.
In Brad’s honour, the Joy of Sharing elves who worked with him each year are looking forward to keeping this tradition alive. If you would like to help, here’s what you can do:
* Please note that charitable tax receipts will be provided for all donations of $10 or more.
All the best of the season to you and your family!
